Special Events Coverage for members – The MSGIA makes available through the pool for MSGIA members a very cost effective special events coverage for outside entities that wish to use your district’s facilities for a specialty event. The types of activities we typically see our members using the special events general liability policy for are items such as:
- A sports camp run by an outside entity collecting money for the camp and the outside entity keeps the money not the school (football, basketball, soccer, etc.)
- A large family reunion that may extend over a weekend or multiple days in which school facilities or grounds are used for the event;
- Wedding receptions, wakes, funerals, etc.
- A fundraiser for an outside group that wishes to hold an unusual type event using your gym, building or grounds;
- City, league, or traveling team type: Softball, basketball or soccer tournaments
It is a very easy application process and very inexpensive way to transfer a larger often times unique event risk to a separate policy for an outside entity.
Special Events Applications:
Nominee Event Application
Tenant User / Instructor Event Application
Events can viewed as one of three types:
- Nominee events (where the school district may be hosting a large gathering and wishes to use this special events coverage to transfer the risk of the 1 time event away from its normal property and liability policy; (example might be hosting class A, B, or C statewide basketball tournaments)
- Tenant User Event – where an outside group or legal entity wishes to hold a special event at your district and use your facilities or grounds but the district staff is not involved in organizing, managing, or staffing the event. (Sports camps, wedding receptions, large family reunions)
- Instructor – where an instructor for an outside legal entity or sole proprietor wishes to use your facilities or grounds to teach a class to an outside group of persons from the public, charge money for the class, and has no general liability policy of their own.
Shawn Bubb and Matt Komac will be the primary contacts for the MSGIA member on this program. After the member completes the application they can send that to either Shawn or Matt. Planning ahead helps ensure an accurate application, underwriting, and payment process. Thus, allowing for 2 weeks in advance of the event is appreciated.
If any of our MSGIA members or agency partners has questions about the program, they can contact either Shawn Bubb or Matt Komac with MSGIA and we’ll help walk you through this simple process.
